Dong-In Kang

Wassa~~~~~Waseda fellas!!
Yoroshiku!! I am "Seoul-Chon(in japanese, seoulite who's not married if my self-made word ever makes sense)" called Dong-In Kang. (I've just learned an interesting fact from a TV show today that japanese use almost the same word "chon-ga"as koreans do-which is said to be originated from korean word "chong-gak"(총각)- for "the unmarried men".
Did any of you know about this?

To begin with...
I am a junior student who's a new kid on the block.
My major is law but i am very interested in international politics so i'm double majoring in political science.
The reason of my abrupt join is that i have been very interested in learning japanese culture and the relations of the two countries. It's very delightful to get to know the similarity of the two yet there exists the subtle difference which allures me and provokes my appetite for deeper involvement. These days, lots of issues sprout between Japan and Korea so it's worthwhile to scrutinize those current events to not only understand the reality but also to find our way to further develop our long friendship.

I've been to Japan twice, in the summer of 2004 and 2005 and it became a part of my valuable experience with lotta lessons as well. Those are the pictures taken in Osaka and Tokyo as you may have all recognized^^ i only had the chance to visit big cities like tokyo, kyoto, osaka, kobe with the exception on nikko(which was wonderful) so i'd like to see more of japan when opportunities are granted! Love japanese cuisine and sushi & sashimi are always my favorites~

Also, I have some exchange experience with Waseda undergraduate law students last year. very exciting to have conversations with them in person (with my short japanese^^;;)

Well, these are some of my introduction. I hope we discuss about variety of issues (also about fun episodes and personal chatting, if time allows^^) and hope it contributes to mutual understanding of each other and the establishment of stronger bonds!

Jaedeock Lee

Hello everyone! I’m so glad to meet you guys.
My name is Jaedeock Lee. Briefly introducing myself, I majored psychology at my undergraduate and sport management at graduate school. I have got a Master’s degree in August, 2005 and now I am getting ready to study in US from this fall semester. Fortunately, I have been admitted to PhD program focused on sport marketing in Kinesiology department at the Texas A&M University. Now I work at Jreh research on part-time basis, the small survey company which is much involved in this upcoming National Local Election on May 31st. My job is doing ARS survey, analyzing the result and writing a report.

Jaran Shin, who was my coworker in Hansung English camp last January, offered me to join in this session. I thought it would be fun and exciting to share a variety of ideas with smart and intelligent guys, also this session will help me learn to discuss in English.

I have been to Tokyo two times, to visit my friend and to take the GRE. It was very impressive to experience Japan. Most Japanese were so kind and helpful and the street was clean. Besides, I have one Japanese friend Migiwa, living in Korea for 3 years. I am so happy to participate in this conference and am sure that it will make us not only to understand each other but also to have a good friendship. Again, nice to meet you guy all.

Yeh Ji

Hi everyone~

My name’s Yeh Ji Lee and I’m currently a Junior majoring in English Language and Literature. I was a reporter for our University’s English magazine during my freshman and sophomore years and currently am double-majoring in international studies.

I first heard about this session from Kyung Eun and decided to participate because it seemed like a great opportunity to gain insight into Japanese culture. But more than anything, I was excited about the prospect of making new friends. I’m sure that through these sessions we’ll gain mutual understanding, and I truly hope that this understanding will lead to genuine affinity for each other’s culture. Look forward to seeing you all~!

Jenny (Hyunji)

Senior, English Language and literature

Hello everyone!! I am very excited about having this meeting because I am sure that communicating and sharing ideas with you guys will be an invaluable opportunity for me to broaden my perspectives. Now to start out my self- introduction, my name is Jennifer, Hyungji, Kim and I was born in Madison, Wisconsin. I came back to Korea when I was 11. Although I was born in the U.S. and stayed there during my childhood, I believe most of my identity was formed in Korea. Yes, we are truly living in a globalized world, but due to many excuses I haven't had the chance or motivation to know any international students in person.

However, last semester I was lucky enough to go to the U.S. as an exchange student. And there, I met many students of many different nationalities. As I spent much time and interacted with them, I really felt it was high time I crawled out of my small well (This sounds sort of strange but don't get me wrong. i'm not that weird-_-;;) and especially happy to get to know more about our neighboring country "Japan". Nice to meet you! 만나서 반갑습니다!

Jaran

Hello, my name is Jaran Shin.
(My first name Jaran means claret orchid by the meaning of Chinese character.)
I am a junior at Korea University and I major in both Classical Chinese and
English language & literature.

It is a great opportunity to have this TV-conference session with you all. When I attended Global English I & II with Mayu from Waseda University, I had a great time with my classmates from Japan and Korea. Through that course, I was able to learn more about both countries. It made me correct whatever wrong ideas that I had of Japanese cultural and social issues. To minimize such misunderstandings and to enhance communication, Mayu and I agreed to have this session. Through the upcoming sessions, I hope we can increase our understanding of global communities including both countries. I’m sure that we will understand each other through active and fun talks and improve our friendship.

Thank you. ^_____^

Hee Sun

2nd year, School of Mass Communication .

Hi~ Nice to meet you~
My name is Hee sun Yun
This picture is the one when i took during my military service. Maybe you know already but most Korean guys have to serve the military for 2 years. This is our duty. Because of that, I am only a sophomore. However, I entered Korea University in 2002 .
Although i don't know about Japan very well, I really want to get to know about your culture . So I think this is very good chance to understand your culture, people and so on. Moreover, I am more than willing to help you understand Korea.
I am looking forward to meeting you~See you soon~

Jee Haey

Junior.
English Language and Literature
Political Science

Hi~
My name is Jee haey Sohn
(means wisdom).
You can call me Agnes, which is my catholic
name, or Sophie(means wisdom also!).

I was born in Korea and moved a lot since my father works as an officer in the ROKAF(Republic of Korea Air Force). I lived in big cities and rurla places and know lots of historical places(would like to show you guys someday~!). I also lived in England(Lancashire, near Manchester) when I was 7 to 9 years old. So, it's almost thirteen years past since then, so please be generous with my short English^-^;;. I did this session two years ago, learned lots of things and really happy to do it again this year.

I'm studying English language and literature and also Political science especially in the field of International Politics. While I'm studying international politics, I realized that not only studying text books but also knowing other country's perception is really important. I'm looking forward to meet you guys and share different perceptions of Korean and Japanese students(and I'm also excited to make new friends.^-^) I'm joining the HPAIR(Havard Project for Asian International Relationship) group here in Korea University(are there anybody joining it? HPAIR did its annual conference last year in Tokyo~!) so, anybody interested on it, tell me~ hehe.

Wish we can have a great time doing the session, and hope this meeting could be developed in the years to come.^-^

Yesora

2nd year. Chinese Language and Literature Major

Hello.
I'm Yesora.

I'm a sophomore, majoring in Chinese Language and Literature.
From next semester I am also starting the study in Political Science. I'm from Jeju island, one of the most beautiful places in Korea, so whenever you'd like to come to Korea in the summer, welcome!!LOL I love all kinds of music from pop, jazz to latin music, movies, people with different cultural backgrounds and photography.

I'm really interested in Japan too.
Actually I didn't really know about Japan, but last summer, I traveled India alone, and I met one Japanese traveler there. And while we talked and hung out together, he gave me really great impression, and I got to have an interest in Japan. Now, I see many Japanese movies, dramas and books, and I even learn few words from them. I think, meeting a person affects you a lot. This is a really great chance for me to know more about Japan and your thoughts. I'm very excited.
See you all soon!!

Kyung-Eun

Senior, English Language and Literature Major

Hello to all the Waseday University students !!

People call me... Kyung-Eun Lee.
I think it's a very difficult name for the Japanese people to pronounce. I will let you know its proper pronunciation when I introduce myself on Monday.
The picture that you see is me. I took it last month at the Nikko Narita Hotel. :) I have visited Japan twice so far. However, I only stayed for one night each time. So, technically, I know nothing about Japan. I would love to visit Japan someday and feel what life is like in our neighbouring nation. Briefly, I like to travel, meet new people, participate in sports activities, play and take care of babies, read English novels, cook etc.

Anyhow, it is a great pleasure to be conversing with you all :)
I am looking forward to your presentations and our discussions. I truly hope that we could make the most out of the 4 sessions that are permitted to us. I also hope to get to know as many Japanese friends as possible. As you probably already know, I am well aquainted with Mayu because we were chatting partners last semester. I am forever grateful that we were partners. We learned alot about each other (Japan and Korea), and had quite candid conversations. Our chatting sessions were exciting and informative. Because it was so much fun to talk to Mayu, I am looking forward to the sessions with high anticipation. I hope to learn more extensively about you guys through this opportunity. See you soon!^^
