The Effect of Korean Military Draft?

(If you read my previous posting here, im sorry (TT) This table is the correct one!!) This is a part of my graduation thesis. I really appreciate you all helped my survery during the summer vacation. According to the results, i could find a "certain"(statistically proved) decrease of negative beliefs: Self-expectation, from Korean pople ONLY(among KR, JP & US) . I just thought this is because Korean guys become spiritually tough through their harsh experiences in army. I cannot easily say its good or bad, but i just wanted to show this table ^^;;; mayu

What's the country for me?

Today, Korean side gave us really good question "Do you fight for the country, if your country is really in danger?" and "Do you like your country?". It was very interesting that none of us from Japan side raised our hands up, while half(or more than that?) of Korean side raised their hands.

I think that we both think our lives are more important than anything, and we fight for our family and importnat people. But the difference between us was whether we value on fighting for our "country" or not.

One of the reasons that i think of is maybe education?. What Japanese students learn in school or in general life are "No more war", "Never keep, make and bring in nuclear weapon", "We sweared to our constitution article9 that we never use our self difence forces to attack first" Those kinds of things. I realized(from the previous conference) we didn't learn enough about how JP did terrible things to people in other coutries, but at least, we learned JP is the last country to raise the war.

As we talked during the conference, not all of the Japanese would think this way. There are rightwing thinking people^^;. They do exist in younger generations, too, i guess.

But even so, I want to against the war, and if it happens, i will probably fight for my family and my important friends in Korea, in Japan and all over the world, but Japan will not be the reason of fighting to me. Hope our governmet will not go wrong anymore. I liked today's conference, and i could think some^^ I like my country, but im still not sure what it is..

(p.s.) you know in jp, to raise any demonstration to say things to the government is somewhat weird for normal people, but teachers did it to say "Forcing us to sing a national song is imperialism! Give us freedome!"-*-..They are crazy about having the right to choose to do it or not, aren't they?...I sometimes feel something are strange in my country and maybe in me too.

Topic on 10/30

Here is our suggestion from Waseda side.
Why dont we talk about "military forces" on 10/30?
Since world is facing difficult situation like North Korea nuclear test right now, some people are insisting that Japan should change constitution to have military forces again. But at the same time, some people are worried that Japan could be the imperialistic country like back in WWⅡ again. This is really hot issue in Japan right now and I think this is not only important issue for Japan but also for Korea.
Also why dont we focus on military draft too?

I think this is right time to talk about this issue.

We Will start to prepare for this topic from now, is it ok?

Summer picture

A picture taken during Naoki and Ari's trip to Korea last August.
We went to 'board game cafe' where people can hang around with any type of games played manually.
The game we were playing was...hmm....I don't remember its exact name but something like
'falling monkeys' or something;;haha
It's a game which a player pulls out a straw-like object without making any monkey fallen.
A player who make the least monkeys fallen win!!
I forgot who lost on that one!!^^;

Anyways, a piece of memory from KU-WU interaction!
It's from KU side cyber community, posted by Kyung-Eun!~~
Thank you K.E.
and see u all tomorrow!

Points made at Friday's Meeting by KU members

Before I begin, I deeply apologize once again for all the delayed process.

Although not all the members could not join, a few things were made clear on this meeting.

First, new members joined.
Besides Hyuk-jin and Hye-mi, we will have two newcomers, Jung-Eun Kim and Jung-Sun Yum.
Jung-sun is a friend of Mayu's as I heard.
Anyways, we still need to fill the two empty placements but I will manage that somehow.

Adding to the previous presentation schedule,
Jung-Eun wants to do "employment" and Jung-Sun wants to do the Korea/Japan wave.

However, as we discussed, nobody was quite willing to do the second topic of the TVC which is "imperial system"
It seemed kinda complicated issue for some of us as I speculate.
Therefore, I suppose we need to have consultation on that issue to clarify the theme and objective for the preparation for presentation and further discussion.

Newcomers will post their profiles as soon as possible and the upcoming presenters, Kyung-eun and Hye-mi will send WU side the presentation file earliest possible.

Thank you for WU side's patience and cooperation and on the behalf of KU side, I will do my best to work things out if WU side has any inquiry.

Dong-In.

Hyuk Jin Lee, Alex

Hyuk Jin Lee (Alex)

Senior, English Language & Literature Major

HELLO, KU-WU BUDDIES!!

I am Hyuk Jin Lee, but I usually go by Alex when I introduce myself to foreign friends as my Korean name is hard to pronounce. If you find some difficulty in pronouncing my Korean name, call me Alex.

Seeing the picture on the web, you may get some idea that this guy on the picture is not an ordinary man. Yes, I am unique. Plus I am energetic and dynamic like the retouching pictures changing without a break. I hope the session will be full of pep and fun. (Don’t press the ESC button then it will stop. -.-;; <- I use this emoticon when I make a corny joke or kill the joy of conversation)

Isn’t it a great idea to have an international video chatting with neighboring country’s friends? I couldn’t help but join this club when our dearest friend Kyung Eun asked me to join this club. I can’t wait to see you guys!!

Speaking of my interests in Japan, I would say that I am really into Japanese comics. I have mastered Japanese comic since my elementary school. My favorite is [Death-note], and I can’t wait to see the movie of Death-note, which coming out soon. Don’t mention the Slam Dunk and the Dragon Ball; these are legendary in the world of comics. Plus watching Japanese baseball game is kind of new trend among young Korean guys thanks to Seung Yub Lee in Yomiuri. Also, my cousin lives in Harajuku and he keeps on insisting that I should go to Japan and have fun. How can say I am not interested in Japan and the Japanese people?

Once again, I am really happy to join you guys and hope we have real fun during this session. Have a nice one.

P.S Hey, buddies show me your warm welcome with leaving some comments on my article. ^^

Regarding the next TVC

Hello, I am Dong-In, the leader of KU side for the fall semester on TVC.
How are u guys all doing?

First of all, sorry for all the delay on the preparation for the next session.
There had been many things going on on the KU side.
Anyways, these are things confirmed so far..

10/23 Part Time Job - Kyung-Eun and Hye-Min
10/30 Imperial System - None assigned yet
11/6 Views on Korea or Japan Wave - Han-Suk and ?
11/13 Eng. Edu. at Elementary Level - Hyuk-Jin and Yeh-Ji
11/20 Employment issue for college students - Dong-In and ?
11/27 Juvenile Problems - Jee-Hey and ?

Hyun-Ji is preoccupied with something, so she hasn't decided yet but would shortly.
There had been three others who were said to join but due to their personal issues, they could not.
Therefore, for the fully assigned presentations, KU side still has the vacancy for 5 people.
I am thinking of giving chances for Japanese exchange students here in KU (or even those from other coutries who are interested) to participate in this activity as WU side has the variety of students from Korea (Inhye, Dana). But I am not sure with this idea concerning its specific means for implementation. Either way, it will take time to fill the member gaps until the mid-term ends and there is enough time for recruiting.

About the day to post the materials for next session, I think Wednesday would be OK(but i am not sure since there had been no decent opportunity to collect the individual opinions on our side and to build a consensus.) But one thing for sure, for the first week, the posting of materials for presentation would be delayed till Friday-Saturday at the earliest due to the mid-term exam period. Sorry about this inconvenience.^^;

This is it for now and I will try my best to update as soon as possible under the allowance of time.

Thanks.

Dong-In

Dana

Hello~ I'm sorry for upload lately. ^^a

My name is Lee Dana from junior of Korea Univ.

By the way I'm studying in Waseda Univ this year as an exchange student.

My major is Japanese literature, so I'm in literature department in Waseda. I'm taking major course with other Japanese students.

I came here in Apri this year, and I'm gonna stay here until next February.

Actually I lived in Tokyo 5 years before, when I was an elementary student. So I can understand Japanese.

For me Japan is kind of my second country. And I think live in Tokyo is really cool.

Tokyo is a big and crowded city. There are so many place I could visit. Expecially for shopping and eating.

I'm living in Waseda international dorm right now. It's only 7 min from my uni by walking.

And I met so many nice foreigner friends in this dorm, I really like my dorm life and enjoy it.

My hobby is go to a movie and traveling around. The above picture which I took in Italy in last summer holiday.

That place is Firenze,it's a beautiful city. ^^

I could know this TV conference and the English conversation club from Mayu.

She is one of my best Japanese friend.

I wanna do my best for this project and I hope we can have a good time from now on.

Let's enjoy together!
